After graduating from college in 1972, David flew carrier-based jet aircraft for the U.S. Navy and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. In 1978 he entered the financial services industry and shortly thereafter earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designations from the American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He has also completed executive courses at The Graduate School of Business at Columbia University and he has been awarded the title of Retirement Planning Specialist*, based on a Certificate in Retirement Planning from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently he was awarded the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation by The Center for Fiduciary Studies. He also successfully completed the Retirement Plan Academy’s Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA®) exam. The primary role of an AIF® and a CPFA® is to help corporate fiduciaries help their employees as they strive to achieve successful retirement income outcomes and to protect themselves by complying with all laws and DOL regulations.
In 1987 he was elected President of the Suffolk County Chapter of the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters and Chartered Financial Consultants. Throughout his career he has taught investment courses at Hofstra University for the American College, served as his Branch Office’s Advanced Estate Planner, as well as their Executive Benefits Specialist.
He is professionally focused on all aspects of retirement planning including the design and utilization of Qualified Retirement Plans including 401(a), 401(k), Profit-Sharing, and Non-Qualified Retirement Plans. As an AIF®, he is authorized by Equitable Advisors, LLC to offer ERISA 3(21) Co-Fiduciary Services. As a Financial Professional, he can help bring together retirement plan providers and investment firms to best meet the retirement income needs of his corporate clients, their plan participants, and their families.
His distinguished experience has allowed him to earn numerous industry and company awards including entry into the Elite Advisor Group at the Paramount Planning Group level. He is a partner in The Black Oak Group, a diversified group of highly credentialed, experienced and retirement planning-focused financial professionals.
David resides in West Islip, NY and has an office in Woodbury, Long Island. He is a member of the Nissequogue Golf Club and served on its Board of Governors. He is married to Lynda, a public school teacher. They have one son, who graduated from Boston College in 1999 and works as a Financial Professional.

The Retirement Planning Specialist title is awarded by Equitable Advisors, based upon the FP’s receipt of a Certificate in Retirement Planning from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In collaboration between the Wharton School and Equitable Advisors’ affiliate, Equitable Financial Life Insurance Company (New York, NY), coursework for the certificate was developed exclusively for Equitable Advisors FPs, and the title may only be used by FPs who have completed the required coursework and complete ongoing continuing education requirements. The CLU® is widely considered to be the most respected insurance designation in the industry. This designation was created in 1927 by the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. The CLU®; has traditionally been pursued by agents who wish to focus on life insurance for business or estate-planning purposes.
The Certified Plan Fiduciary Adviser (CPFA®) credential certifies the knowledge required to act as a plan fiduciary or help plan fiduciaries manage their roles and responsibilities.
The Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designation certifies that the recipient has specialized knowledge of fiduciary standards of care and their application to the investment management process.
